Auditions
The Silicon Valley Gay Men's Chorus is looking for new and talented members. All you need to do is sing a song. Choose a song you love to sing. Anything from an operatic aria to "It's Raining Men" is fine.
We understand that the idea of auditions can be terrifying, so we do our very best to make the audition process as comfortable and fun as possible. We will ask you to sing your song and some scales to determine the range of your voice. You may also be given some exercises to test your sight-reading, pitch accuracy, and rhythmic skills. (Sight-reading ability is not a requirement, but it helps!)
It is perfectly acceptable to sing without accompaniment, but if you would like to be accompanied by the piano, please bring the sheet music in the correct key.
Come join us and use music and singing to open the hearts of our members and our community at large.
If you are interested in singing in the acclaimed Silicon Valley Gay Men’s Chorus under theleadership of Artistic Director Daniel Hughes, please send an email to him at director@svgmc.org to schedule an easy and simple audition.
Membership Dues
SVGMC collects dues both as a means to help finance our operations and performances, and as a way to keep our members aware of the fact that we are a serious organization. Our mission requires commitment on the part of every member, and dues serve to remind us each month that we are making an investment in SVGMC with both our time and our money.
Dues for SVGMC are $25 per month. Your first month with the chorus is free; that time is to let you decide if it's the right group for you before making a financial commitment.
SVGMC understands that many talented and dedicated singers may not be able to afford the dues at that level. No one is excluded from the chorus because of an inability to pay dues. Scholarships and waiver of dues or fees can be granted upon consideration of financial need. Email manager@svgmc.org for more information.
Rehearsals
SVGMC rehearses every Tuesday, 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM, at Le Petit Trianon, 72 North Fifth Street in downtown San Jose.
